Ok, so I apologize for neglecting my blog this week..... but, as many of you know, I have been battling a respiratory infection! UGH! Head congestion and coughing at night.... more aggravating than anything!!! Honestly, I just really needed to get through the week, and keep up with work, home work, laundry, etc! Just no energy to really write.... plus, with feeling blah, I don't think my postings would have been all that interesting! HA! :D
I missed my long run last Sunday, and the run scheduled on Monday! I was a bit bummed! But, the coach that designed my plan shared some wise words......... "One or 2 runs don't make an entire training plan, but 1 or 2 runs could take you out of training!" (I am not sure I quoted that exactly right, but that is basically what he said... and those words really helped me except the monkey wrench thrown into training).
Soooooo, today I was signed up for a local 5K--it was an inaugural 5k for support of a local high school soccer team..... the event was called, "Kicking and Screaming 5k!" And, this morning I awoke at 3am coughing and hacking! I so wanted to take cough syrup, turn off my alarm, and just sleep in today...... But, I thought of my friends that would be there and thought, "come on, you have 8 miles to run anyway, just go run the 5K." So, in a way, I kinda went to the event "Kicking and Screaming" in my head! LOL! :D
The above picture is the picture of the age group winners... how I managed to be part of the group, I am just not sure! Well, actually, I have my friend, Brandy, to thank.... she paced me the entire run! She would throw out motivating words throughout the course! She too is recovering from this respiratory infection going around! She came down with the same infection about 4 days ahead of me.... I thought I had dodged it, but NOPE!
The above picture is prior to starting the 5K. Yes, if it wasn't for these 3, I probably wouldn't have been as motivated to show up..... it truly is great to have other runners make you responsible for getting your butt moving!!!!
Brandy and I with out "kick-a$$" Lowndes High school color socks... we thought they would be fitting for supporting a Soccer supporting 5K!
So, here I am biting my medal like the Olympians always do... LOL! Not sure how that came about..... But, today, I think I was being a bit of a dork! I will blame that on the head congestion.... HA! HA! BUT!!!! LET ME SAY, MORE IMPORTANTLY, I PR'D my 5K time!!!!!!! That to me was more exciting! I couldn't believe it! Crazy! Seriously, prior to the race I felt like I coughed up lung! UGH!
So, recap of the this week's training:
Sunday long run and Monday: NOTHING!!!!!
Tuesday:4.01 miles ( a bit short than on plan, but all I had)
Wednesday: 5.40 ( pace was slowed, and ran out of time, only 0.6miles short)
Thursday: Slept in. Went to YMCA at lunch and ran 6.5 miles. Surprisingly, this was a decent run! I was so dreading it! Took forever to even get myself ready and set to run...... but, was pleased with the outcome! Thursday was my half day at work and I didn't have time constraints.... made it a bit easier to attempt run
Friday: Scheduled REST day!!! A very welcomed REST day too!
My training runs were slowed, but the miles were put on my feet! So, with the circumstances, a successful training week although not the best week to speak of!
Thursday I had the YMCA to myself!!!! There is NEVER anyone there at lunch time!!!!!
Gym selfie.... I always feel weird with these mirror selfie photos.... here I am trying to pep myself to run.... even pushed out a smile! LOL! I really was expecting a not so great run! But, better than expected and got it done!
Ok, I have to share this..... I am typically a scheduler, and like to think of myself as an organized person..... but, my desk at work and sometimes my house is not that way!!! LOL! Time just gets away from me........ And the following is something I found on Pinterest.....LOL ......
Well, my friend/ co-worker, Brandy (pictured above) is VERY neat and VERY organized! Her desk is "just so." Well, on my half day Thursday, I was sitting in the pick up line at my son's school, when I received a text picture of my desk...... see below!!! My desk ALL cleaned and ORGANIZED!!!!! Brandy couldn't take it anymore, and straightened my desk......I thought it was HILARIOUS!!!!! I laugh out loud in the pick up line, and received some looks because my door was opened!!! HA! HA! But, oh, I so appreciate the cleanliness of my desk! If only I had a true before pic! Brandy is the BEST! :D
On plan tomorrow: 18 miles! Longest run yet!!!! stay tuned!
Have to get dinner in the oven....... UNTIL LATER!!!!!!
