Usually on Saturday mornings, I head out for a run. However, those that follow this blog know, my foot injury has me out as far as running is concerned! ***** sigh***** So, this morning, this spinning bike had my name on it!!!!!!
I got to the spin class early before anyone else... wanted to make sure I was able to claim a bike in the back!!!! Would hate for others behind me to witness me dying on the spin bike during the class! That is me, always thinking ahead!
Ok, let's talk spinning!!!! I will be honest. I use to think of spinning and riding a bike as "rehab" for runners with an injury. Consequently, because of my injury, I am force to spin. But, let me tell you! I have a WHOLE new outlook on spinning classes and riding a bike!!!! Yes, I believe that spinning classes will make me a better runner!!!! Spinning/bike riding definitely strengthens the leg muscles!!! I mean, within 15 minutes of the class, I felt my legs burning! And this was just the warm up!!!!! With added resistance that is applied throughout the work out, I can see how my legs will get stronger which in turn will increase my speed and endurance! Also, the resistance is like running hill work. Another added benefit, is that I know I must have burned out a TON of calories!!! I can see spinning making me leaner!! (Of course combined with a healthy diet). Leaner=faster!!! And, probably the MOST benefit is that spinning is low impact! Yes, great for when a runner is injured, but also (as the light bulb went off in my head this morning during spinning class) to prevent injury when training. BOTTOM line, spinning WILL and HAS to become part of my normal work out routine!!! It is great cross training! And, most importantly, I should become a better runner!!!! And, you all know, my goal is to sub 2 hours on a half marathon! I need to shave off 8 minutes of my time in order to achieve this ...... and know what, it might be possible with adding spinning!!!! I am excited! I am looking ahead! :)
I LOVE the instructor of the class today!!!! She was peppy, loud, funny, and seemed very excited to get on a good work out!!!! She turned off the lights and cranked the music way up!!!! Kinda felt like I was in a night club spinning!!! LOL! The beat of the music kept my legs going and the lights turned off seemed to keep me clam throughout the class! It was awesome! Yes, I was getting my booty kicked, but stayed motivated to keep going!
HA! HA! So these are both true!!!!
Well, signing off.......... Have a GREAT rest of your Saturday! UNTIL LATER!
Spin? Love it? Perform regularly?
If you spin, have you noticed it improving your running?
