Running at my pace, my time. My running blog. Run motivation

Saturday.... Humid, but fun 5 mile run

June 18, 2016

So, a little over a week ago, my friend Arlene asked if I knew there was a 5 mile run in Thomasville, Ga. She informed me that she had already signed up......... of course, I searched on-line to check out the event!

The event was being put on by the First Baptist Church in Thomasville, Ga. The first thing that I noticed was the 8:20am start time!!!! Yes, I would get to sleep later, but the down side was that in South Georgia in June, 8:20 am meant running in 96% humidity!!! Humidity is no friend to any runner!!!! Then, I thought about the hills in Thomasville..... there are rolling hills there!!! So, after weighing the pros and cons to running this event, and the cons outweighing the pros..... I of course decided why not run? And, there I was registering on-line!!!! Then, I texted my friend Arlene and informed her that I broke under peer-pressure and signed up!!!! LOL!!! No, seriously, I had 11 miles on Saturday and 5 miles on Sunday on the training schedule........ why not just switch the days and avoid another treadmill running day?!!!!

SO GLAD I DECIDED TO RUN!

It truly was a fun run!!!! I absolutely LOVED it! Very well organized and the Volunteers were great!!!!!! I decided to run with just a little push, but comfortable......and, I did something that I never do.... didn't pay attention to my watch! I approached this race as a training run and didn't "race" it! Just a little push!

I enjoyed interacting with the volunteers:

1-at the 5K turn around, I told the volunteers that "the smart runners signed up for the 5K and not the 5 mile"... they laughed and encouraged me on......

2-during the 4th mile, I informed some of the volunteers that I had a friend following me in tie-dye shirt that talked me into this, and I was going to kill her at the finish line (of course, I didn't mean this, but the volunteers laughed).... and one of them actually kept a look out for her and told her!!!!!! LOL!!!! She informed me of this ta the end!! HA! HA! :D

3-also, during the 4th mile, I noticed a guy closing the gap between us.... during a water stop, I walked and took a water cup to pour on my head.....and I told the volunteers at that stop if they would trip the guy behind me, I would appreciate it (again, only kidding!! And they laughed!) But at the finish line, the guy came up to me and asked if I had indeed said that...... I confessed... we laughed.... and he told me that even if I had continued to walk after the water stop that he wouldn't have caught me.... LOL! I told him that I didn't know if he was running like a training run, or if he was about to go all out! HA! HA!

Beating the Humidity:

To beat the humidity today........ I had developed a strategy prior to the race! I decided to hand carry a water bottle to drink from..... then, I used the water that was handed out at the mile water stations to splash on my face, pour on my head, and pour down my back!!!!  My sun visor was soaked!!!! But, you know what, this made the race so much easier....... I actually never felt too hot! It was awesome!

Breakdown of run:

1 mile-8:37

2- mile- 8:37

3-mile- 9:04

4- mile- 9:54

5-mile-9:36

Honestly, at 8:20 in the morning with 96% humidity, I am A-OKAY with those times!

***The awards were in an auditorium!!! How cool is that?!! And, there was AC!!! YES!!!!

They had the winners walk up to the stage area to hand out medals! It was pretty cool!

I actually won the Female Master's Category for the 5 mile run!

Pretty neat medal!

My friend, Arlene, snagged 2nd in her age group!! Woot! Woot!

I drank a protein drink right after the run..... but below, was lunch! YUM!!!!!

My husband and son worked hard to savage corn from the garden .... we had strong winds about 2 days ago and practically laid the garden flat!!! A neighbor down the road creams it for us!!!

Gotta run! Hope everyone had a GREAT Saturday!!!! Thanks to everyone who supports this hobby of mind writing this blog..... you guys ROCK!!!!

UNTIL LATER.........................

My Time Runner
Easing back ..... well, this week I managed to get 2 runs 🏃‍♀️in..... felt good! 🤗 These runs were to test the water so to speak. Anddddd, I am glad to report that both felt good! On Wednesday: I walked a mile & stretched. Then, I ran 3 miles at an average 9:28 ( 9:38, 9:28, 9:17). This was followed by another one mile walk & stretching. Today: I started with a mile walk & stretching. Then, I ran 3 miles at average 9:12 (9:19, 9:01, 9:18). Followed by a one mile walk & stretching. Honestly, these runs were a bit faster than I planned.... I did receive my heart rate monitor in the mail and hope to start using soon.... this should definitely slow me down due to being aware of heart rate. We will see. I hear heart rate monitoring can be very humbling because most runners don’t realize that they don’t run their easy runs as easy as they should. I am very intrigued by heart rate training and feel it is especially important for me with being in my mid 40s. I am no spring chicken and need to train smart to get stronger! I still have a goal to achieve and I am determine to give my all to achieve it!!! Happy Sunday! Xoxo
Ever lost your running mojo?!! When I had to back out of running my marathon in March, my running mojo flew ✈️ right out the window. Per Ortho orders👉 no running for 6 weeks! Well, here I am, allowed to run and I have ZERO.... I mean NADA motivation! I have set my alarm the last two days to get up and get moving... and, what did I do? I got up, but I cleaned the house! Yep! Still haven’t even attempted to run!! So, how do I find my running mojo back?! Here is my plan.... I ordered a chest heart rate strap... and bought a friend’s @garmin fenix 3.... used, but new to me :) had delivered today! So, tomorrow... I am going to do what the @nike slogan says and “Just Do It!” After all, you really “are your own hero” like @adamgoucher said (not sure if exact quote). It will be hard and frustrating. I was honestly at my best physical condition and really had potential to run a great time back in March.... but, now, due to being side lined, I will be starting all over. I am scared ... just being honest. I need my mind strong and know that I can regain my fitness and maybe even come back stronger! Starting tomorrow.... will be documenting my come back! 👊
Easter 🐰 Egg Coloring fun!!!! Andddddd, oh so easy!!!! This is definitely a Pinterest success!!!!!! Hard boil some eggs 🥚🥚🥚 Spray shaving cream in a pan.... add food coloring... then let the Littles roll the eggs around in the pan. Scoop out with a spoon and let dry for a few minutes. Then, wipe off with a paper towel!! Voila!!!! 💁‍♀️ Beautiful decorated Easter eggs!!! Oh so easy!!!!!! A little messy, but I used disposable gloves 😉. #mytimerunner #easter #eastereggs #eastereggdecorating #momlife #crafts #boymom #familyfun #egg #busymom #boys #holidays #kidcrafts #kidfun
Today is my birthday!!!!! 🎉 46 years old, but honestly.... I don’t feel 46 years old!! Maybe age is really just a number 🤔. Since earlier Saturday morning, I have been dealing with tooth/gum pain 😩 went to the dentist Wednesday and all was fine, but Thursday started with pain. Really thought a result of manipulation from dentist visit.... but, Friday, worse pain that required Ibuprofen. Then, Saturday morning, excruciating pain! Enough that I went to an urgent care 😩 at Dr. Parrot’s clinic. PCN prescribed... today, my birthday, the pain is tolerable with continuous ibuprofen. Called dentist today and will most likely get X-rays sometime tomorrow. So, yeah, not the birthday I had hoped..... my fellas (husband and 8 year son) surprised me with 👈this cake 🎂. They forgot to spray the pan prior to pouring in cake batter 😆 consequently, kinda crumbled when taking out of pans😂. But, they decorated anyway, and I think it looks absolutely perfect! Made my day despite the tooth/gum issue. Love them! Love the effort! ❤️ I am blessed to see another day.... but, any dinner celebration will have to take place next weekend. *** also, new blog post up at www.mytimerunner.com (link in bio) where I talk about PMS (pre-marathon syndrome) check it out! There are a couple typos- cut me some slack, I was in pain from tooth/gum inflammation ... more soon! Xoxo 😘
Shhhhh.... sneaky mom here 🙋‍♀️!! Some foods, my son will turn his nose up to after just simply looking at them... before even tasting. Soooooooo, I had to try to out smart him! 💁‍♀️ Solution? 🤔He loves smoothies 🥤because he thinks they are “milk shakes.” Well, this smoothie he drinks right on up!!!! And, it has avocado 🥑and spinach!!!! With adding a little pineapple 🍍and banana 🍌, he gives it a thumbs up!!!! 👍 Win! Win!! What sneaky mom tricks do you do to get your Littles to eat healthy foods?
I so hope @cocobabaofficial becomes available in the United States soon!!! I was lucky 🍀 enough to score this Coconut 🥥 Body Oil... and, although the recommendation is to use on the 3-Bs (boobs, belly, and booty areas), I find that this is the most AWESOME cuticle oil! As a Nurse Practitioner, I wash my hands A LOT!! This makes my cuticles extremely dry! But, with this Coconut Body Oil, my cuticles are staying moisturized!! Love! Love! Love! ❤️ Not sure what I will do when I run out 😱..... it would be well worth a trip to Germany!! 😊
Life has it ups ⬆️ and downs ⬇️. And, currently, things have slowed quite a bit for me. While my leg is healing, I am finding other ways to stay active. Times like this, you must look for the good. Yes, no running for a total of 6 weeks 😱... on the bright side, I am one week down and only 5 to go! 😀 I am grateful that I am still able to stay active with walking and biking ( I go to spin class, but can’t do the standing positions on bike). I have set goals for myself as far as upper body strength and core are concerned. Strangely, the break from running has been some what like a breath of fresh air.... And, what keeps me positive is that I know, the time will pass .... and running will be waiting for me :)
Oh my goodness...... I am in loveeeeee with this @perfectbar 🍫!!!! Organic! Non-GMO!!! Oh yesss.... going to try our other flavors!!!! You must try!!!! You won’t regret it!!! #itsjustperfect
PERSPECTIVE: 👉one can either focus on the bad or look 👀to the good. Last week, I was evaluated by an Ortho specialist 👉who ordered a MRI to further evaluate my medial shin and calf pain to rule out a stress fracture. Today, I was informed that the MRI had marrow edema (swelling) which indicates medial Tibial stress syndrome... mine rated as a grade 2. Guess just really bad shin splint! Ugh! With continued running, Ortho said I would be on my way to a stress fracture. 😬. Orders to stop 🤚running 😩 For 6️⃣ weeks!! Which means I will not be running a full marathon Saturday. Ok, so this sounds absolutely horrible to a runner’s ears.... right?! Well, that depends...... with proper perspective, there is “good” to be grateful for..... 🔹I don’t not have a stress fracture!!!!! That is a HUGE plus! At least I listened to my body and had warning before a fracture occurred! 🔸I will heal with 6 weeks of no running! Honestly, there are many people dealing with health challenges that maybe they won’t heal from with just rest, dealing with chronic medical conditions, or have medical conditions that don’t allow for them to be physically active 🔹with 6 weeks on my hands, I can focus on my weak areas which happen to be arms and core..... this will only be a big benefit when I return to running. Also, more time for stretching!!! 🔸I can still maintain cardio workouts with biking and other low impact activities ..... so, it isn’t like I can’t work out (and exercise is how I stay sane with balancing life) 🔹Yes, I had a smooth training period, but then as taper came.... my attempt at a target goal full marathon time was taken away.... well, for Albany Snickers Marathon that is....on the positive side, there is always another race! Look at Shalane.... she had to back out of Boston only to go on and win the NYC marathon!!!!!!! 🔸I can get back to blogging 💻
So, yeah..... not the end of the world when you think about it🤔
Ok, this marathon training is almost over... come the first weekend in March, all these logged miles and work outs will be behind me. Pretty good week except for tight right quad and hamstring causing a weak feeling in my right calf..... this is when having a coach makes running life so much better... see I had been rolling, but not icing afterwards... I should have known to do that 🙄 .... so today, a little better! Whew! 😀 so this week’s work outs:
Sunday: 14 miles at average 9:45 pace (target pace was 9:30-9:55)... splits: 10:49 (hobbled the first tenth of a mile and then ok but warmed up slow, 9:50, 9:49, 9:44, 9:52, 9:38, 9:05 (too fast, told myself to cool jets), 9:43, 9:39, 9:42, 9:43, 9:49, 9:36, 9:24 (so glad I was done!)
Saturday: 12 miles at 9:09 pace (target pace 9:00-9:15). Splits: 9:27, 8:57, 9:13, 9:08, 9:05, 8:55, 8:53, 9:09, 9:26, 9:23, 8:54, 9:12
Friday: REST DAY (Nothing, nada, zero anything)
Thursday: Tempo 3 miles at average 7:31 with splits (7:26, 7:35, 7:30)
Wednesday: 6 miles 10 min pace treadmill
Tuesday: strength and core (2 mile walk)
Monday: 6miles 10:10 min pace treadmill
And, that is what my week looked like... still plugging along! Happy Sunday! Did you run today? Race? More soon! Love this Instagram community! Xoxo 😘
