Today, I had an AWESOME surprised dropped off for me..... a gift from my friend Toni!!!! She is the best!!!! She put the running a full marathon in perspective with this card which breaks down 26.2 miles into feet, yards, and kilometers..... really makes 26.2 miles seem like a really far, far, far, distance..... LOL! :D
Along with the card, were all these goodies!!!!! I especially LOVE the keychain....... UF GATOR colors!!!!!! :D
Today was a half day for me to work..... instead of getting up early to run on my treadmill, I decided to wait until I got off work at noonish. I then went to the YMCA to change and got my 3 miles in ......... that makes one more run checked off training plan leaving ONLY ONE more run tomorrow!!!!!! Friday is a REST day and Saturday is the BIG DAY!!!!!!!!!!!! Snickers Marathon!!!!
I have been warned by the coach that designed my training plan and by several experienced marathon runners that the last 3-4 miles will be the toughest!!!!!!! They have told "that is when the real marathon challenge comes!" I saw the below quote on Pinterest that summed up what everyone has told me!!!
I came up with a list of my TOP 10 Goals for my First Full Marathon on Saturday....... the goals (not in any particular order) are as follows:
1- Not to go out TOO fast..... In the words of my coach, "better to be 20 seconds slow, than 20 seconds too fast" (I have a LONG way to go to "Bonk" out early)
2- Stay hydrated! Hydrate! Hydrate! Hydrate!
3- Start fueling early with GU and take one about every 45 minutes during race to prevent depletion of my glycogen stores (I DO NOT want to meet the WALL--- the dreaded WALL!!!!!)
4-Not to spill water or gatorade on the volunteers (oh yes, I have done this...... so embarrassing! and mentally messes you up worrying about if you made them mad or not.... and stressing whether you should go back and say "sorry" again although you repeatedly said it when the situation happened :-/ )
5-Not to puke!!! This is a MAJOR goal of mine!!!! When I puke, I go into convulsions!!! IT is the WORSE thing ever for me!!! UGH!!! And, not to mention, I am a sympathetic vomiter! Yes, someone else pukes means I will too!!!! I know, I know.... how are you a Nurse Practitioner?!?! LOL :D
6- Not to CRAMP!!!!! I have never experience this, but from what I hear, I DON'T want to either!!!!!!!
7-Try to SMILE for the photographers..... this is one thing I never seem to do!!!! I always look as if I am dying or mad..... half the time I don't even see them!!!! Well, I will be looking!!!! I am hoping for at least ONE decent photo!!! Please, oh please let there be one decent photo from my most memorable run........ please....
8- Make it to the finish line.... and hopefully make it there upright..... really don't want my finishing photo to be one of me crawling!!!!
9- Not to let my mind "give up" at the end..... I need to focus of keeping my mind strong so that my body will follow!!!!!! I must trust the training plan and know that I can make it and to press forward.
10- And, the MOST IMPORTANT GOAL is to absolutely, no matter what, ENJOY THE EXPERIENCE!!!! I mean, I will always remember my FIRST EVER MARATHON!!!!!! (and, perhaps my only....LOL :D.... )
Now, if I knew ahead of time that there was an ATM machine at the finish filled with cupcakes, you better believe that I would have no problems keeping my mind strong.... LOL! Anyone that knows me, knows that I LOVE CUPCAKES!!!!!!! Disney is on point with this idea!!! Love Disney!!!!
And, when I get weak, I will just think of my biggest fan.... the one that believes in me no matter what..... and that is my 6-year-old!!! He is AWESOME!!!!!!
Just an update for this who might be curious...... yes, I am still driving my tahoe and it now has 416,034 miles on it!!!! Still running great too!!!!!! This thing really is built like a rock!!!!!
Gotta run.... nightly routine calls.... UNTIL LATER!
