WOW! 4 months of training for my first ever marathon is coming to a close...... So hard to believe that this morning was my last long run before the Snicker's Marathon in Albany, Ga next Saturday!!!! The nerves have not fully set in as of yet, but I bet as the week goes on, I will start to feel a bit nervous. Trying my best to stay calm at the moment.
Oddly, when I look at run on my watch, it states 8.04 miles at a 9:07 pace, but when I download to the computer, Garmin connect states 8.04 miles at a 9:08 pace...... I understand that it rounds up, but you would think that the watch would do that as well..... just bizarre and annoying for a Type A personality! LOL! :D
Breakdown of run: 8.04 miles at a 9:07 pace by watch, 9:08 when downloaded....
Mile 1- 9:48
Mile 2- 9:19
Mile 3- 8:58
Mile 4- 8:45
Mile 5- 8:54
Mile 6- 9:01
Mile 7- 8:58
Mile 8- 9:14
The above quote really does ring true.... with running and life in general! Seriously, when I stay positive and don't let negative thoughts take over, things just go better and I am accomplish what I set out to do....... However, when I get nervous, upset, worry, things just don't go as well. This is definitely food for thought!
And, then there is this quote from Edgar Allan Poe that could not sum up my marathon training any better! Seriously, if I hadn't pursued my dream of training for and running a marathon during the day hours, I would only be running in my night dreams as I slept. Honestly, if there is anyone out there wondering if they are capable of a marathon, you are! If I can do it, anyone can!!! I started out about 3 1/2 years ago and could only run 0.8 miles and now, and now, I will take on 26.2 in less than a week!!!!! So, don't keep your dreams at night while sleeping, pursue them during the awake hours!!!!! DON'T GIVE UP!!!
Over the next few days, I will think about my strategy in reference to completing the Marathon next Saturday.... so, stay tuned!!!! I will have some what of a plan, but like they say, best laid plans may not go as planned........ I will just go with it! I will trust the training plan!
