As the BIG day approaches for my FIRST EVER attempt at a FULL Marathon, I began to ask myself, "Why exactly am I running a Full Marathon?!?" After contemptlating this question, I then wondered why other runners decided to run a Full Marathon.... So, I took my question to social media......
Runner's reasons for running a Full Marathon are as follows:
1- "I ran it to see if I could!" (honestly, this is one of the reasons I am running)
2- "I did it fully on peer pressure!" (I don't do anything based on peer pressure, but I can see how peer pressure could be a factor. Especially if the running partner or group that you run with are all running a Full, I mean, "WHY NOT, RIGHT?!?")
3-"I never go HALF on anything-Just saying!" (Not sure I 100% agree with this one, I mean a Half Marathon is no joke and one MUST train for a half to make it to the finish line without struggling...... one just does NOT run 13.1 miles without proper training and this is a GIGANTIC achievement--but I appreciate the honest answer)
4-"Because it was there and damn, I better train for the next one!! That hurt!!" (uh, that takes a lot of guts or is just plum crazy to run a full marathon without proper training)
5- "I finally ran my first half and it just felt too short and anti-climatic. 6 months later, I started running fulls!" (To me, a half was a big achievement when I first cross the finish line, and continues to be that way as I shoot for a sub-2 hour half time. Again, 13.1 miles is NO JOKE! You must train!)
6- "I'm stubborn and wasn't satisfied stopping with a half marathon!" (Again, I think a Half is a HUGE accomplishment in it's self, however, I too have decided not to stop at a half marathon distance, and now shooting for a Full marathon distance).
7- "To increase my endurance as a runner!" (I tend to agree with this one. Seriously, it is freakin AMAZING what the body can be conditioned to do!!!!! I would have NEVER thought I would be capable of running 17 miles in a single run--this is my longest run so far on my training plan at this point in time)
