All smiles today!! Today, I had a doctor's appt due to this weird intermittent numbness that I keep having to my lateral calf area and a pressure sensation to the back of the calf.
After getting checked out by Ortho, I was told that issue could be one of two things, but most likely related to my lower back. However, that I may continue to run..... whew!!! Wiped the sweat off of my forehead on that one!!! Only if new symptoms develop that interfere or limit me running would I need complete work up. Nerve conduction study and MRI would definitively diagnose issue, but at this point would not change anything. Again, a huge sigh of relief!!!! Now, I can plan for upcoming things in the next 6-12 months!!!!
Even though I have no pain or weakness in the lower extremities, I didn't want to ignore a sign that needed to be checked out..... I am a Nurse Practitioner, but sometimes it is harder to be objective about my own symptoms because denial is a big thing!!! I DID NOT want to hear "it is your back" and "stop running." LOL! :)
see, in 2011 I had severe pain to the right upper extremity, weakness to my tricep muscle (brushing my hair was hard), an numbness to the top of my hand... symptoms that I could not ignore and was found to have a herniated disc that surgery was the only answer. Neurosurgery is scary! Don't want to go through that again! Every time I look at the following picture, I am thankful that surgery helped even though it was probably the most scary thing I had gone through. I was blessed to have a smooth surgery and recovery! And seriously, things like this in life make you more grateful for a good health....
Not easy to rock such a brace....LOL!!!!
For now, stretching & strengthening exercises are in order.... AND the best thing?!?... Keep on running!!!!! :) Half Marathon planned in November and who knows what 2016 will bring!!!! Yes, I am forever the planner....

Ever have an injury that you wanted to ignore for the sake of thinking you might not be able to run?
