Today was a DAY OF FIRSTS!!!!!!! There was a local 5k with called "Tutus and tennis shoes" with a "Frozen" theme......bit of a small race, but a FABULOUS race! It was actually the first time that this race occurred. Although small, they had finisher's medals for everyone!!!! Pretty "cool" ones too... :D
For the FIRST time EVER, I was first female!!!!!!!
Okay, the usual wicked fast people did not show for the race which bumped me up, and allowed me to actually take first female. There was also a local Chik-Fli-A race that was a deterrent for the "fast" people. To put things in perspective, as the race director was lining up up, he yelled, "Whoever plans to run this race under 30 minutes step up behind me!" Well, literally ONE guy stepped up (he is super wicked fast--like 16-17 min fast)..... and then there was me! Behind me, everyone else. None-the-less, I got first female! Received $100 CASH!!!!!! First time ever getting money as a prize!!!!!! I think I will frame it!!!!!! I also received a glass like trophy and of course the finisher medal!!!!!!! (see pics above). So, funny, there was a Facebook post earlier in the week on the local running page stating that there would be a $100 prize for the first one to cross the finish line! I had made a comment that the only way I was going to be first was for Elsa to be there, and freeze all the runners so I could past them!!! LOL!!!! And, even this morning, as I crossed the finished line with being first female, I didn't even think about the money... I so thought it was literally for the first to cross..... not for first female and male! The ONLY thing on my mind as I crossed was that I made a PR (personal record).... I was so thrilled with that!!!! Still awaiting official times! Last I saw on the clock was 24:59... but I am sure official time will be a little over that! But still, A PR BABY!!!! :D
Per my Garmin, the following is the pace for 3 miles..... (I ended up running 4 more miles afterwards to get in my 7 miles on my training plan):
Mile 1- 7:48
Mile 2- 8:17
Mile 3- 8:15
Let me tell you, I have never experienced in a race being one of the up front runners.....
I was definitely out of my comfort zone!!! Let me explain, the super wicked fast guy left all of us other runners in the dust!!! It was in no time that he was out of my sight! At the one mile mark, there was not a runner in front of me, and then as I turned to look back, I could see other runners at least 0.25 miles back....... the mind games started!!!! I NEVER have to pay attention to signs in a race!!! I always follow runners ahead of me!!!! I started to think, "Oh no, have I missed an arrow sign? OMG, what if I did miss a turn?!?! Oh crap, these people behind me are following me!!!! Oh no, what if I am the reason everyone gets DQ'd for getting off course?!?!" But then I finally saw an arrow sign and all was good. But dang!!! It is stressful being an upfront runner!!!!! So, this stress I experience was yet another FIRST!!! LOL!!! :D
Also, I have to give a shout out to my friend Arlene who is pictured above and is 3rd person from the left.....she took 2nd place in her age group!!! She so wasn't expecting that, and I so wish I would have gotten a picture of her face with the surprised look on her face! She rocked that 5K!!!!
Olaf was there!!!!! How cool was that?!?! And..... Elsa and Anna were there too!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Brrrrrrrrrrrrrr......
The weather was fitting for a "Frozen" theme race!!!!! Seriously, it was high 70s earlier this week, and now this?!?! Even crazier is that later this upcoming week it is expected to be in the 80s!!!!!! No joke!!! We literally have all seasons in one week... sometimes in one day!!!!! That is South Georgia for you!!!!
Well, I must figure out what is for dinner!!! 15 miles on schedule in the morning!!!! UNTIL LATER..................
********
Ever won prize money in a race?!?!
Does cooler weather make you run much faster? (Seems to be a good thing for me!)
