Saturday, for me, is usually a shorter run, but today was a long run day. This is mainly because one of the runners in our group that meets on Sundays needed to get in her long miles today...... I was shooting for 10 and ended up with 9.15 miles.
We started out at 5:45am and it was already 66 degrees!!!!!! Gotta love the South Georgia heat!!!! But, I must say there was a mist and breeze that made it feel less like 66 degrees..... Don't get me wrong, it was still HOT!
The group decided to start out on a route that usually winds up their long runs... a 4 mile loop through a neighborhood. They are running beasts! Make it look so effortless. I mean some have Boston Qualified, or they participate in the Spartan races. They are tough! And today, they were on it!!!! Pushed the pace a bit. The altered course was hilly!!!!! Anyway, I have been running 10 miles on Sundays on the "usual" course. At 10 miles, that is where the other runners start on their way to this neighborhood. As, you can see by my face, it was hot! Although my face always looks some what flushed after running.... with my pale skin, I get red easily.
Today, was my fastest paced long run! As my Garmin watch picture shows, I ran 9.15 miles at a 9:35 average pace!!!!! The break down of the run is as follows:
Mile- 6 9:34
Mile- 8 9:52
I actually broke off with the group at around the 4th or 5th mile. Like I said, the neighborhood that we were running was EXTREMELY hilly. The runners were pushing it..... at one time, I looked at my watch and we were at a 8:55 pace... and that was going up a hill!!!!! I might have been able to keep up with the group, however, I didn't want to slow them down. I knew, when I was starting to worry about slowing them down and "over-thinking" the run, I needed to separate. Another runner that has 17 miles on the books for tomorrow, branched off with me as well.... So, in the end, I didn't run completely solo. I was actually THRILLED with my final pace results. I LOVE running with the faster runners, it really pushes me in a way that helps me!!! Also, builds my confidence a bit!! Right now, I am still a little insecure about my running. But, I do know, I am getting stronger!!!! And, I owe these local "elite" runners for it!!! They are really nice, cool people! They are very supportive! But then again, aren't all runners ;)
On another note, back in March I received a paid registration as a birthday present for the Savannah Rock n' Roll half marathon. But, things just didn't work out for me to be able to run. Really couldn't find anyone to go with me......and the hotel was $399 per night! That would be over $800 for 2 nights!!! Plus, it is a LONG drive by myself to Savannah! Remember, my tahoe has 406,000 miles on it!!! My husband and son would have gone with me, but packet pick up was Friday! and you HAD to pick up your own packet. Well, if we waited until my on got out of school on Friday and drove straight to Savannah, we still wouldn't have made it to the expo in time! Things just wouldn't work out. However, it seems like everything actually did work out! Yesterday, there was a heat advisory for the race. Today, the directors decided to divert the runners at 9:45am due to the heat. Many didn't not complete the race and RnR is making it better. So, in the end, it was really hot and maybe a good thing that I stay in Valdosta and didn't spend all that money! The following is the email I received.
The below picture is something I saw on Facebook..... everyone here in South Georgia can relate!!! LOL! I am so ready for fall weather!!!!
Well, going to sign off! About to try to make a pumpkin pie..... will be my first one ever!!! Will let you guys know how it goes in my next posting!
