Today, there was a 5K in a cute little near by town in Quitman, Georgia. It is called the Cast Iron 5K and there is a Skillet festival afterwards. At the beginning of the run and at the end, there were people banging skillets... literally! It was a fun run!!!! I almost decided not to run this morning because my head was super congested, and I still have a slight cough... but I thought, I can survive 3.1 miles. So, I put on my running gear and headed out!
I was feeling like crap! No other way to put it..... but even when you don't feel like it, you smile! Right?!?! The picture above is my friend Arlene and the guy in the middle is an inspiring 77 year old man named Joe! That is right, he is 77 and shows up to almost all the local 5Ks..... he is pretty amazing.
Anyway, to run this morning was a GREAT idea because I PR'd!!! That's right! Funny how when you don't feel your best, you actually run your best! When I crossed the finish line, I saw the numbers 25:29..... will await the official times before I actually record that as my PR. It is funny how you see certain numbers on the time clock, but then official numbers get posted and there are seconds added to what you saw.
Of course I didn't turn my Garmin off right at the end, can't seem to get in the habit. But, at least I start it! Break down of the run is as follows:
Mile 1- 8:08
There were tents and vendors every where. If I had felt better, I would have stayed and walked around a bit... but today, I just wanted to get back home.
There was a pumpkin patch too!!! Will have to arrange a time to bring my son back to this!
I just love tributes to Veterans.... just had to take a picture!
Well, I think I am going to take some good ole Robitussin DM and take a nap..... UNTIL LATER! HAVE A GREAT SATURDAY!
Did you start the day off with a run? race? Any PRs?
Do you run the local 5ks? 10ks? I tend to run most local 5Ks for several reasons: I like running with groups of people, I love feeling part of a community, and I love that the runs usually support good causes in the community....really win! Win! all around!
